Hello, I’m Danny Shuttleworth
I’ve been working at AEC for 9 years and I am a Quality and Laboratory Manager.
My role at AEC
During my 3rd year at University I applied for a work placement as an Assistant Surveyor at AEC.
Whilst working as an assistant, AEC let me sit the P402 (surveying and sampling strategies for Asbestos in buildings) exam so I could provide evidence of my surveying knowledge to my University.
Once I completed my exams, I stayed over the summer months and to work towards becoming a Lead Surveyor, before returning to University to complete my 4th year.
After I completed my degree I returned to AEC as a Lead Surveyor and over the next few years I developed my surveying skills. To broaden my knowledge, I took the P403/P404 and P401 exams and began project management work at AEC.
In 2012, after gaining 7 years of site experience I decided to apply for a Trainer position. I initially started to teach awareness courses and non-licensed removal courses and then went on to teach the P400 series of BOHS courses.
During this time, I also took on more quality systems-based responsibilities which grew to being mentored for the UKAS Quality Manager role in 2015. I completed training and took over as the company ‘Quality systems and laboratory Manager’ in 2017.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The variety of work and the constant evolution of my role at AEC. I enjoy teaching as I get a lot of satisfaction when training delegates pass their exams to gain qualifications.
