HOME > Meet Scott Brookes, AEC's Project Manager
At AEC, our most important asset is our people and we pride ourselves on developing our staff skills so that our employees can strengthen their expertise through a dedicated internal training programme.
Scott Brookes, one of our team of Project Managers based at our head office in Manchester, has worked for the business since March 2009 and has excelled in the training programme.
I worked as a machine printer for about 12 years and was keen to make a change and step into the health and safety industry. I sent AEC my CV following a chat with two of their surveyors when they conducted a survey at my house at the time. AEC took me on as an assistant surveyor on an ad hoc basis and soon after became a permanent member of the team.
I spent a year building up my skills before I moved into my first full-time role as an Analyst working on air monitoring projects mainly within domestic properties.
AEC supported me through various training courses including the full range of BOHS P400s, and after working as an Analyst for 3 years I moved over into asbestos surveying. As a surveyor I gained experience working in domestic, commercial and industrial sites before being signed off as a senior surveyor.
Seven years later, and after much support & encouragement from the senior management team at AEC, I was given the option to move into project management. I spent my timing shadowing senior managers gathering knowledge and gaining experience on different size projects. I decided to work towards the Certificate of Competence in Asbestos (CoCA) which was hard work but rewarding. This allowed me to be signed off as a qualified Project Manager in December 2019.
Working at AEC has allowed me to work across some interesting and unique places including defence bases and airports. One of the more interesting sites I’ve worked at was a castle in South Glamorgan that was built in 1140.
“The role of project manager is really thought provoking and constantly challenges you meaning there is never a dull day.”
I recently celebrated my 10-year milestone and I continue to work on large-scale projects with some of our top 10 clients – I really enjoy what I do and the support I have been given has helped me to achieve my career goals.
“The managers and directors at AEC genuinely care about their employees’ well-being and everyone at AEC gets along creating a friendly working atmosphere. You are always encouraged to progress and grow your skills.”
Here at AEC, we’re always on the lookout for enthusiastic, talented individuals who enjoy being part of a team.
