P402-Buildings Surveys and Bulk Sampling in Asbestos

Duration: 3 days

Who should attend: Persons wishing to inspect premises to locate and identify asbestos containing materials and to safely take representative samples of suspect materials for analysis. Persons who supervise or commission asbestos surveys and who wish to have a thorough understanding of their contents and interpretation.

Summary: Delegates will receive training in the nature of asbestos and its associated health effects, alongside a detailed review of the various products that contain asbestos. The course will cover, in detail, the theory and practical aspects of planning and undertaking asbestos surveys in buildings of various types. The course will also cover the safe and representative sampling of all types of asbestos installations. Delegates will be trained to produce reports in compliance with HSG 264 incorporating material risk assessments and make appropriate remedial recommendations to their clients. The course includes a full range of powerpoint presentations, video footage, accompanying notes and additional course materials.

Qualification: The P402 proficiency course contains a short answer questions examination under the supervision of a BOHS invigilator and a practical assessment undertaken by an independent assessor. In addition, delegates will be required to complete 2 asbestos survey reports within 6 months of their successful completion of the exam and practical assessment and present these to BOHS for marking.

Practical assessments: The short answer questions exam and/or the practical assessment can be undertaken separately from the main course if so desired. However, AEC strongly recommend that the candidates level of knowledge and experience be considered before they are booked onto these.
